c

SHU School of Performing Arts faculty member Darren Litzie and his piano trio perform music from his new Summit Records release – On My Own Time.
Pianist/Composer Darren Litzie holds a Master of Music in Jazz Studies Degree from The Hartt School's Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance Degree from Western Connecticut State University. He has performed and recorded with artists such as John Riley, Dave Santoro, Mike DiRubbo, Frank Basile, Harvie S, Phil Palombi, Jeff Fuller, Marlene VerPlanck, and Tom Melito. From 2009 - 2010, Litzie was the touring keyboardist for singer Andrew Strong of the band/1991 film The Commitments.
An avid composer, Litzie completed a three-year stint as a member of New York's prestigious BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, in which several of his works were selected to be premiered in
concert by the BMI Jazz Orchestra. Also an active recording artist, Litzie has appeared on six records as a sideman, and his debut record, My Horizon, was released in June 2022 on Summit
Records to critical acclaim. Said Midwest Record, “A solid swinging pianist, he can take originals and set them side by side with chestnuts and make it all his own…a dose of high-octane jazz
that leaves you feeling good.”
His 2026 Summit release, On My Own Time, features the trio of Litzie, bassist Chris DeAngelis, and drummer John Riley performing Litzie’s original compositions as well as his arrangements of
music by Thelonious Monk, The Zombies, and others.
Since 2013, Litzie has served as an Adjunct Professor of Music at Sacred Heart University, where he teaches music classes and piano lessons.
